Q&A with Ashley Croxford

Ashley is a seasoned Global Mobility and Human Resources professional with over 20 years of expertise, primarily within the Global Mobility sector. Currently serving as the Global Mobility Manager at the University of Queensland, she brings 17 years of experience in Human Resources and Global Mobility  across UKEMEA and Asia Pacific. Her career spans diverse industries, including professional services, engineering, architecture, construction, mining, IT, and manufacturing. Although immigration is a key focus of her studies and professional experience, she has also developed expertise in expatriate tax policies, remuneration and compensation strategies, and change management within large-scale organisations.

Renowned for her strong leadership and teamwork abilities, Ashley has a proven history of enhancing team development through training and mentorship while driving the transformation of operational functions. Recognised for her corporate citizenship and leadership skills, she remains committed to building high-performing Global Mobility teams and delivering impactful outcomes for organisations.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself?
Ashley: Beyond my role, I am passionate about the mentoring and development of Global Mobility professionals. I believe in fostering growth and promoting knowledge-sharing within the industry.

Q: What is the most rewarding/exciting aspect about working in the Talent Mobility Industry today?
Ashley: The Talent Mobility industry today is a dynamic and deeply rewarding field, offering the chance to make a profound impact on individuals, families, and organisations. It’s inspiring to facilitate global workforce collaboration, helping talent thrive across borders and cultures. Guiding people through transformative personal and professional journeys brings immense satisfaction, as does witnessing the growth and opportunities that mobility creates.

The industry’s ever-evolving nature, shaped by new technologies and global trends, keeps every day exciting and full of potential. Contributing to diversity and inclusion, fostering innovation, and playing a strategic role in shaping the future of work add purpose and meaning to the role. For those passionate about connection, growth, and making a difference, Talent Mobility is not just a career — it’s a calling.

Q: Why is having a community focused industry group like TEMi important?
Ashley: A community-focused industry group like TEMI fosters collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and professional development among talent mobility professionals. It strengthens industry standards, offers support through shared expertise, and creates a unified voice to address challenges and drive innovation, ensuring a more connected, informed, and resilient global mobility community.

Q: What motivated you to join TEMi’s team of volunteers?
Ashley: Since the inaugural TEMI event, where I was honoured to win the 2019 Mobility Champion of the Year and Best Transformation of Global Mobility awards, I have actively contributed to the TEMI community in various roles over the years. I firmly believe that a community’s strength lies in its connectedness, and to drive the industry to new heights, we must embrace and lead change together.

Q: What excites you most about where the profession is headed and the impact it’s making?
Ashley: What excites me most about the future of the talent mobility profession is its growing recognition as a strategic driver of global business success and its role in shaping inclusive, agile, and innovative workplaces. The profession is evolving and the  increasing focus on sustainability, employee experience and creativity  in mobility programs adds a meaningful dimension to our work, creating opportunities to make a broader societal impact. Moreover, the profession’s ability to connect people across cultures and borders is not only vital for business but also transformative for individuals and their families.

Witnessing the profession’s potential to influence the future of work, support global collaboration, and foster growth on both personal and organizational levels fills me with excitement and pride.

Q: If you could make one significant change to the global workforce management landscape, what would it be?
Ashley: 
I would integrate global mobility strategy with the organisation’s strategic direction, aligning mobility practices with key business objectives. This would streamline cross-border processes, enhance talent deployment, and ensure that mobility contributes directly to organisational growth, innovation, and a diverse, high-performing workforce.
