Q&A with Jamie Lingham

Jamie has built a reputation for his holistic approach to immigration and relocation, focusing on educating clients and simplifying the often complex process of global mobility. A passionate and driven professional, Jamie thrives on solving complex immigration challenges and delivering tailored solutions for government departments, multinational organisations, and ASX-listed companies across Australia and New Zealand.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself?
Jamie: I’m the CEO and Global Immigration Leader of Absolute Immigration Group, which I founded in 2001. With more than two decades in the immigration industry, I’m passionate about helping businesses attract, retain, and support overseas workers, and guiding individuals toward life-changing opportunities through strategic immigration and mobility solutions.

Q: What is the most rewarding/exciting aspect about working in the Talent Mobility Industry today?
Jamie: The most rewarding part of this industry is witnessing how immigration and mobility can truly transform lives. Not just for employers who benefit from their skills, but also for the individuals and families moving to new countries and adding to communities.

Seeing Australian companies flourish through accessing global talent reinforces why I love this work. It is about building stronger, more connected societies while helping businesses grow with skilled and experienced workers who want to make a significant difference in Australia.

Q: Why is having a community focused industry group like TEMI important?
Jamie: TEMI plays an essential role in bringing together professionals across the global mobility and immigration landscape. It fosters collaboration, shared learning, and thought leadership, helping us collectively raise professional standards and support innovation in workforce mobility. Individually we can achieve good things, together we can create great things, and this is why TEMi is so important.

Q: What motivated you to join TEMI’s team of volunteers?
Jamie: I’ve always believed in contributing to the growth of the industry that has given me so much. Joining TEMI’s volunteer team is a way to give back. Sharing my experiences from over 20 years in immigration, learning from peers, and helping shape the next generation of mobility professionals. I’m particularly motivated by TEMI’s commitment to collaboration, education, and continuous improvement – these are values that align perfectly with how we operate at Absolute Immigration Group.

Q: What excites you most about where the profession is headed and the impact it’s making?
Jamie: What excites me most is the growing recognition of mobility as a strategic business function, not just an administrative process. As global workforces evolve, immigration and mobility professionals are driving innovation in compliance, workforce planning, and employee experience.

I’m inspired by how our industry is becoming a catalyst for social and economic growth, helping people and companies thrive while fostering inclusion, resilience, and shared success on a global scale. Taking on the Immigration Liaison Role will enable me to help the industry be more connected and also to get a seat at the table to influence immigration policy.

Q: If you could make one significant change to the global workforce management landscape, what would it be?
Jamie: I would create greater alignment between workforce planning and immigration policy. This would be ensuring governments and businesses could work hand in hand to understand trends, anticipate skill shortages, streamline processes, and enable talent mobility with clarity and compassion. A globally coordinated approach would make it easier for skilled workers to move where they’re needed most, creating stronger economies and more inclusive communities worldwide.
